Maternity Session Info
Thank you for choosing me to capture your this very special time in your family! You may not always feel 100% beautiful with your growing bump, but I promise that you'll look back and be thankful you decided to document this phase in the journey.
Maternity sessions are typically best between 32-36 weeks. During this timeframe you have a bump but aren't too uncomfortable!
Below you'll find some tips to help make your session go as smoothly as possible. I know there can be a lot of stress going into the session but I'm here to help take some of that stress away and make it a fun experience.
Tip 1
Some couples like to incorporate props! If that's you, some popular ideas are an ultrasound picture, baby shoes, and block letters to spell the name. Balloons are always fun! Be creative, I'm open to incorporating your ideas.
Tip 2
Have fun! Your joy will come across in the photos, and you guys will feed off each other. Admittingly, people can feel a bit awkward getting their pictures taken. I get it...it's not my husbands favorite activity either. Even I get nervous. The best advice I can give is relax and have fun with each other! I'll direct you for some casual posed photos but also capture more candids of you all.
Tip 3
Attire! Start with the hardest person first, typically that's mom, and choose 2-4 colors that coordinate. Having a good mix of solids and patterns adds visual interest to the photos, as well as layers (vests, cardigan, etc). Since the main focus is your bump, don't let patterns take away from that. You should stick with solids and your significant other/family wear a patterned shirt instead.
Maxi dress - not only incredibly comfortable but very flattering. It can be pulled against your belly to showcase your adorable baby bump. You can't go wrong with a maxi!
Tight shirt and pants - Show off your beautiful curves and showcase the bump with tight fitting tops and dresses. Be proud of the belly and the incredibly beautiful thing you are growing!
Textures - Lace, eyelet, chunky knit, embroidered top. These are all ways to add interest to your solid color instead of a print.
Earthy neutral colors photograph really well whereas bright colors (hot pink, bright yellow or orange, etc.) reflect up in your face and can sometimes overwhelm a picture. Go for a more muted color for those like a dusty rose or mustard yellow. Don't just think about tops, but bottoms too. A colored pant versus just a khaki or blue jeans is a great way to add color in.
Consider the background. If we're taking pictures in a field, greens won't pop as much as navy blue. Same thing goes for photos by the river, blues might not be the best choice.
When you arrive...
Please remove sunglasses, phones from pockets, hair bands off of wrists, thoroughly wipe any kids faces clean, and double check everyone's hair and clothing.
